This case-based facilitated workshop will provide participants an opportunity to discuss interesting hematologic disorders and coagulopathies that we often encounter in hematology laboratories. A variety of cases with benign and malignant hematologic disorders, and coagulopathies will be presented in this workshop. Morphologic review, an appropriate selection of screening and reflexed diagnostic confirmatory tests, principles and comprehensive interpretation will be discussed by laboratory experts.  Correct diagnosis, differential diagnosis and potential test interference in coagulation testing, particularly clot based testing, by the presence of inhibitors in the plasma will be discussed.

Speakers:

Qian-Yun Zhang, MD, PhD
Department of Pathology, University of New Mexico, NM, USA

Heesun Joyce Rogers, MD, PhD
Department of Laboratory Medicine, Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH, USA

Learning Objectives:

  1. Case based presentations of interesting hematologic disorders and coagulopathies.
  2. Facilitated interactive case based discussion on review of benign and malignant hematologic disorders and coagulopathies, selection of screening and reflexed diagnostic testings, and interpretation.
  3. Recognition of potential problems for correct diagnosis, test interference, and differential diagnosis.
