Travel Awards

Berend Houwen Travel Award

ISLH is delighted to announce that in 2009 we will be able to make available a limited number of travel grants up to the value of US$2,500 to abstract submitters from developing countries (list can be found below). This has been made possible due to the generosity of the Wallace H Coulter Foundation. These travel awards will be known as the Berend Houwen Travel Awards in honor of the founder of ISLH. We respectfully ask you to advise us via email (A.Huisman@umcutrecht.nl or willy.goossens@uz.kuleuven.ac.be) as soon as practical if you are interested in availing of these awards.

The abstract and program chairs will select the Berend Houwen Travel Award grantees based on the merit of each submitted abstract. If you are successful in winning one of these travel awards for 2009 we require the following commitments.

Award Commitments/Requirements

(a) Attendance at the Berend Houwen Travel Awards dinner at ISLH 2009 – note this is paid for and will be held after the poster session on the evening of Tuesday May 12th at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel

(b) That you stay at the conference hotel – Las Vegas Hilton

(c) That you submit receipts for your travel. You will be reimbursed your costs + registration fees.

(d) That upon returning to your country you impart the knowledge learnt at ISLH 2009 to other laboratory hematology personnel in your laboratory and colleagues in neighboring laboratories

(e) That you write brief reports to ISLH at six months and 12 months post the award reporting on progress

We look forward to receiving your application for the 2009 Berend Houwen Travel Awards.
